Demands
The key demands of the campaign to secure a just and sustainable future:
Demand 1: We must live within planetary boundaries.
The EU must be climate neutral by 2040 at the latest. The use of fossil fuels and direct and indirect subsidies for forest biomass must be phased out and we must transition to genuinely renewable energy sources. 30% of land and sea areas must be protected to stop biodiversity loss. We need to move away from a single-use culture towards long-life products and recycle natural resources to reduce energy and material consumption.
Demand 2: The funding of environmental destruction must stop.
All environmentally and climatically harmful subsidies distributed by the EU must be abolished and redirected towards environmental action and a just transition. Sectors contributing to climate change and biodiversity loss must be guided and supported in their transition towards more sustainable solutions. Agricultural subsidies must be redirected towards environmentally sustainable plant-based production. A new nature fund should be set up to accelerate restoration.
Demand 3: Environmental action must be carried out in a just and fair way.
The rights of indigenous peoples must be respected and the livelihoods of workers and self-employed people must be safeguarded in a just transition. The biggest emitters must compensate the damages caused by their activities to those who suffer most from the consequences of global warming. In addition, the EU must ensure that those already affected by global warming and biodiversity loss are fully included in decision-making.
